New York City - Socialist Bastion

Mamdani wins the NYC mayoral race promising more socialist policies. Will it work?

Well, they did it! The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and Zohran Mamdani, have taken over New York City. Even worse, countless numbers are celebrating. If NYC wasn’t enough of a hell-hole already, it’s only going to get worse. Our independence-minded forefathers must certainly be rolling in their graves.

The voters in New York City had a choice between Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa, and ultimately chose the 34-year-old democratic socialist shocking the party establishment. Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson must be ruing the death of the American experiment. The traitors to freedom have won.

“I’ve been a DSA member for over 10 years,” said a 40-year-old health department worker expressing joy. Why not be joyful? Government workers have no competition, are paid by forced taxation of ordinary people, can rarely be fired, and… as a result, have zero initiative to perform their jobs with utmost quality and/or quantity. Heaven forbid, that person ever holds a job which requires satisfying real customers shopping at a business that faces actual competition. The worker also stated, “This just shows that our politics are not radical… what we believe is sensible... maybe the rest of the country is ready for… democratic socialism.”

No! The rest of the country is not ready for such idiocy. Just look at the red/blue political map of the US. With few exceptions, the only blue counties are those in, and around, huge cities. Red, more conservative counties, are overwhelmingly the majority. The only good thing about the NYC election result is this: I no longer need to sarcastically offer the socialist wannabees an airplane ticket to Europe, I just need to suggest a one-way drive to the armpit of the east coast. (sorry New Yorkers, been there, it’s my honest opinion).

Mamdani’s campaign was packed with big policies aimed at lowering the cost of living for everyday city-slickers, from free child care, free buses, affordable housing, and a rent freeze for people living in rent-regulated apartments - much of it funded by raising taxes on the wealthy.

That’s great if one chooses to ignore that fact that whenever government gets involved in anything, the costs go up… not down. Governments, over the last few decades, have become involved in education, healthcare, child care, and housing, always promising to make things more affordable for all. Sadly, though, the facts don’t support their false claims. Decades have seen the costs of all four skyrocket at a much higher rate than overall inflation. Europeans have less than Americans for a reason.

New York City calls itself the financial capital of the world. However, in today’s world of digital technology, transactions can occur anywhere, and in mass quantity. It wouldn’t be very difficult to make Miami, Dallas, Nashville, or any other city, the “new” financial capital. The wealthy don’t like taxes any more than any one else. That’s why there’s so many loopholes. Mamdani will simply join the loophole-elite, and his sheep will only see their disappointment continue.
