I’ve lost count of how many times, in my blog or on social media, I suggested if one doesn’t like their job, they should either get a new job… or create their own job. Why be at the mercy of someone else when you can be your own boss? It’s freedom and libertarianism at its finest.

Keiontae Bell left a corporate banking job to launch his own mobile custom tailoring business. He had spent years in corporate banking, but also spent those years dreaming of becoming his own boss.

"It's been a goal of mine. I've prayed upon it since I was 11 or 12 years old to become my own boss by the time I was 30," he stated.

Bell’s business is called “Pearce Bespoke”, and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Unlike traditional tailors that require in-store visits, Bell’s service brings the tailoring service to its customers. In a “hurry up, get more things done” society, that sounds ideal for customers.

To my delight, entrepreneurship is becoming a growing trend. Nearly 3.5 million new businesses were launched in the first half of 2026 — a 14% increase from the same period last year. June was the strongest on record with nearly 550,000 businesses created.

Whitney Ward, a vice president at Registered Agents Inc., said reasons for the surge vary. Some people are simply passion oriented. Some just want extra money to pay bills. Others are tired of being bossed around by uncaring companies. Even others are worried about AI taking their jobs.

The ones most likely to succeed will be those fulfilling a passion. Without the passion, it’s not long until it becomes just another job where you end up enslaving yourself.

Ironically, Ward also claimed AI is making small business ownership more attainable by simplifying the process of starting a business - such as marketing and payroll. "It has made it possible for someone who doesn't have a marketing or an economics background to still be able to do payroll, come up with marketing campaigns, do social media posts," she said.
